Winners Announced in prestigious Le Cordon Bleu World Food Media Awards

A total of 25 gold ‘ladles’ were awarded last night at Le Cordon Bleu World Food Media Awards’ gala presentation in Adelaide, Australia.

Among the food professionals who received awards were domestic goddess Nigella Lawson, who won gold for Best Food and or Drink Television Show with Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen, UK-based Australian Skye Gyngell for Best Food Book with A Year in My Kitchen, and Australia’s Matt Preston, who was voted best food journalist.

There were two gold ladles awarded for Best Children’s Cookbook. British food media newcomer Nora Sands – principal school dinner lady from Jamie Oliver’s popular TV series – received a ladle for Nora’s Dinners, while respected Australian writer Stephanie Alexander won a gold for Kitchen Garden Cooking with Kids.

Belgian writer Jean-Pierre Wybauw received gold for Best Professional Cookery Book with Chocolate Decorations, and Swiss television show Assaggi di Viaggi won Best Food and/or Drink Television Segment.

Best Wine Book was won by James Halliday for James Halliday’s Wine Atlas of Australia, Best Food Photography went to British photographer Patrice de Villiers, and New Zealand’s Cuisine won Best Food Magazine.

Winners were selected by an international panel of 80 jurors from a field of more than 600 entries, predominantly coming from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Belgium and Australia. (The full list of winners is below.)

Commenting on the competition, Jury Chairman, Ian Parmenter, said: ‘this is the tenth year of competition, which has seen more than 4,000 entries. We’re delighted that once again the standard of entries was extremely high, and jurors were consistent in their scoring. They are to be thanked for putting so much of their valuable time towards the judging process.

“Le Cordon Bleu is also to be thanked for their whole-hearted and ongoing commitment to this growing event”

Mr. Cointreau, President Le Cordon Bleu said: “I am particularly pleased to be involved for the first time in the 2007 Le Cordon Bleu Food Media Awards and its association with winners of such high calibre and international standing. Bravo and congratulations to all the very deserving award recipients”.

In addition to Le Cordon Bleu gold ladles, two individuals, well known to the food and drink industry, were honoured for their outstanding achievements in the industry. British chef, restaurateur, TV presenter and writer Rick Stein was inducted into the Tasting Australia International Hall of Fame, while UK-born Australian cheese guru, writer and TV presenter Will Studd was the Australian inductee. The Tasting Australia Hall of Fame is sponsored by Meat and Livestock Australia.
